Bach Concert in Giarre and Catania: Featuring Internationally Renowned Italian Pianists

On Sunday, December 28, at the Monumental Church of San Nicolò l'Arena in Catania, and Monday, December 29, at the Mother Church of Giarre, the Orchestra Sinfonica Italiana, joined by a prestigious roster of pianists, will perform "J.S. Bach's Keyboard Concertos".

The "Giarre Città Educativa" (Giarre Educational City) festival continues. This cultural project is promoted by the Municipality of Giarre and the "A. Scarlatti", Italian Musical Cultural Institute, under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture, the Sicilian Region, and the Sicilian Regional Assembly. Supported by the Metropolitan City of Catania as part of the European Association of Educating Cities, the project focuses on training, music, and active citizenship as tools for civil and collective growth. Following the opening event dedicated to the Year of Bellini, the second appointment of the festival stands as a moment of particular significance, fitting into a broader cultural journey that spans the territory and engages with its most iconic monumental sites.

"J.S. Bach's Keyboard Concertos" serves as a bridge between two major musical series: on Sunday, December 28, at 7:00 PM, the concert will close the 5th edition of the "Musica e Monumento" (Music and Monument) Festival in the evocative setting of the Monumental Church of San Nicolò Arena in Catania. On Monday, December 29, at 7:00 PM, it will be performed at the Mother Church of Giarre as the second official event of "Giarre Città Educativa".
The performance will feature the Orchestra Sinfonica Italiana alongside a group of pianists of the highest national and international caliber: Vincenzo Balzani, Andrea Bacchetti, Gianfranco Pappalardo Fiumara, Giulio Potenza, Gianluca Badon, Giuseppe Grippi, Ludovica Franco, and Modesto Picci.
This expansive ensemble performance will offer the audience an immersion into Bach's genius, presenting some of the most profound keyboard masterpieces for their musical depth and educational value.

The "Musica e Monumento", Festival, promoted by the "A. Scarlatti" Italian Musical Cultural Institute with the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Catania, is an established event that every December combines great musical traditions with the city's most important monumental sites, enhancing historical and artistic heritage through the universal language of music.
The closing of the fifth edition is entrusted to a program of extraordinary artistic and symbolic relevance dedicated to Johann Sebastian Bach, a pivotal figure in the history of Western music. The selection of the Mother Church of Giarre for the December 29 event aims to highlight the link between spiritual and artistic heritage and the educational function of culture.
«This concert - emphasizes Artistic Director Gianfranco Pappalardo Fiumara - represents a synthesis between two festivals that share the same vision: making music a tool for knowledge, dialogue, and civil growth. Bach is a composer who teaches us how to listen, internal discipline, and a deep sense of beauty-values that are essential to pass on, especially to younger generations».

The "Giarre Città Educativa" estival will continue on December 30 at the Town Hall with the concert "From J.S. Bach to G. Gershwin" by Maestro Vincenzo Balzani. It will proceed on January 10 and 11, 2026, with performances by the winners of the "Regina Margherita" Music Competition, and will conclude on January 14 with the recital "The Voice of the Cello", by cellist Cristian Barraco. Admission to all events is free, subject to availability.
