An original and surprising concert of works for voice and piano, created by famous creative unions in musical history:
this is the essence of the project "Musical Encounters: Couples' Alchemy in 19th and 20th Century Chamber Music",
which soprano Gabriella Costa and pianist Andrea Bacchetti are successfully performing in Italy's top
theaters. The event, part of the fourth edition of Methodist and Waldensian Cultural Heritage Days, will take place on
Sunday, April 12, at the Waldensian Temple on Via dello Spezio, starting at 6:00 PM.
Gabriella Costa is a versatile artist with a career ranging from Baroque and Opera to contemporary repertoire. Andrea
Bacchetti is a talented musician who studied under masters such as Karajan and Berio. With the "Musical Encounters"
program, the two artists pay tribute to the Lied, a musical form for voice and piano featuring texts by great poets,
philosophers, and writers.
Among the many artistic and romantic unions of the first Romantic generation, that of Robert Schumann and Clara
Wieck stands out as one of the most famous. The first set of pieces is drawn from their series of Lieder composed
around 1840, the year of their marriage. The program also includes the musical works of Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel,
who composed over 250 Lieder. Furthermore, the duo will perform works by Gustav Mahler and his wife Alma,
as well as Luciano Berio and the singer-composer Cathy Berberian (his wife from 1950 to 1964). The concert
concludes this engaging musical journey with some of the most fascinating and experimental works of the contemporary
repertoire, such as the 4 Canzoni Popolari (1946, revised in 1963).
