From the press office of pianist Andrea Bacchetti
"Andrea Bacchetti, accompanied by the Nuova Orchestra da Camera Busoni conducted by Massimo Belli, is the star of
the unreleased CD featured in the May issue of Classic Voice, performing two famous concertos by Haydn and Mozart. Born
in 1977, he won his first piano competition (the "Soliva" in Casale Monferrato) at age 9, followed by his
Milan debut at 11, which quickly launched an international career. A passionate interpreter of Bach - undoubtedly among
the best around - Bacchetti's pianism is incredibly pure, intense, and magnetic. Two of the 18th century's definitive
piano concertos are presented in a salon version that brings out fresh details in Haydn and Mozart's masterpieces".
This is how the prestigious international magazine, distributed throughout Italy and select European countries,
introduces Bacchetti's new album. The feature includes a lengthy interview highlighting his extensive experience
performing in major theaters and music centers worldwide alongside world-class orchestras and conductors. It also
underscores his versatility, showing he is equally at ease with the classical rigor of Bach's fascinating structures,
the multifaceted pianism of the 20th century (Bacchetti worked for many years with Luciano Berio), and the freedom of
jazz-style improvisation. A charming anecdote looks back at his youth, when «I used to improvise on everything I
heard, which even won me the absolute first prize in the improvisation category at the Stresa International Piano
Competition».
As for the repertoire, Mozart's Concerto K 488 beautifully showcases both virtuosity and intimacy, captivating the
listener as instrumental brilliance blends seamlessly with poetic depth. While historians define Haydn as the father of
the symphony, he is also the father of the string quartet. This formal clarity and innovative spirit can be deeply felt
throughout the concerto. «Working on these pieces, trying to get inside the minds of these geniuses, provides a
powerful stimulus for endless artistic and personal growth. Every time you play it, you always discover something new
that remains incredibly relevant, despite the passage of time».
The next CD? His great passion for Bach. Bacchetti has performed and recorded a large part of Bach's keyboard repertoire:
from the Suites and Partitas to the Toccatas, the Goldberg Variations, the Concertos (in Turin, with the RAI Orchestra),
and the Second Book of The Well-Tempered Clavier. After more than two years of study, he has just finished recording
the First Book to complete the cycle. It is a massive undertaking, featuring over two hours of music across two discs.
«I have been playing it for a long time, not just for the recording, but also to feel completely at ease performing
it live in front of an audience».
